The annual Palm Sunday service marks the start of Holy Week.
The event recalls Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey while bystanders stripped palm leaves off the trees to lay on the ground in front of him
The opening of the service takes place in the Market Place with the choir of St Peter and St Paul’s, under their director John Wardle, leading the singing. The congregation all lift their palm crosses to be blessed by the celebrant the Revd Jo Saunders.
After processing into the church, the service then included a dramatisation of the St Matthews's Passion Gospel.
